The Company was founded eleven years ago - on April 15, 1993. It united the largest oil producing enterprise "Yuganskneftegas" located in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, three oil refineries in the Samara Region, and distribution companies in eight regions of Russia. In 1995 the following entities joined "YUKOS": union "Samaraneftegas", new distribution companies, some scientific and research enterprises. At the end of 1997 "YUKOS" paid above $1 bln for the controlling interest in "Eartern Oil Company" uniting 12 enterprises in the center of Siberia. In 2000 "YUKOS" purchased 68% of shares of "Vostochno-Sibirskaya Oil and Gas Company" developing very promising Yurubchenskiy Plot of Yurubcheno-Tokhomsk oil and gas zone in the Krasnoyarsk Kraj. In 2001 "YUKOS" became the owner of Angara Petrochemical Company in the Irkutsk region. In April 2002 "YUKOS" purchased 49% of shares of state Slovac pipeline company "Transpetrol" - an operator of oil pipelines in Slovakia. Besides in 2002 the Company concluded the deal for purchase of shares of Lithuanian Concern "Mazeikiu Nafta", comprising of Mazejkjay Oil Refinery, Butinge Terminal, and Birzhaisk pipeline. Today "YUKOS" is the largest shareholder of "Mazeikiu Nafta" and has the rights for the enterprise management. The Company assets include the following gas producing enterprises: "Arktikagas", "Rospan", and "Urengoil".
